we were told to drop sterelizing tablets into aqua roll at start of holiday [supermarkets own brand] but only put enough water in to fill hot water tank to prime system then leave for half hour while setting up rest of stuff then fill aqua roll up with fresh  water we then flush clean water through to get rid of any nastys as we have three kids the last thing you want is running for toilets in the middle of night we have done this for two years in our old van and with our new van with no side affects as for damage to water system element etc i wouldnt say it makes a difference as i use it in my flask and that is stainless on inside
