If you do drain when leaving a site try to think of the grass , i don't know wether it would harm the grass or not , but best to play safe and drain into your waste container and dispose of correctly hi wizzard yes i do

Michael,

if you can get 15kg's of water to 'oscillate' in such a way as to cause major imbalance, I'll eat my favorite camping hat! especially if towing with a substantial towcar such as yours or mine!

hi,not worth the risk,it only takes a few minutes to drain off17

hi,always drain on leaving the site and refill when we get to the next site.most caravan books giving advice will tell you not to travel with water on board,it can oscillate, once on the move acts like a pendulum and can cause inbalance.more so if the water is at the rear.if you need water for the toilet on the way,put some in the car.water is also very heavy 1kg per ltr17

Maybe he filled the tank with mercury?

Draining the loo seems such a waste of money as you have probably just topped it up with the pink stuff and the cassette has the blue stuff.  From other posts on this thread it seems that many people do not use CLs or CS's therefore never use the toilet to its fullest, excuse the pun.

However if you think that emptying the toilet gives you a better tow, do it, however as others have pointed out the effect should be negligle unless it is a toilet in the rear.  If in the rear, it is probably better to empty to prevent tail wagging.

Hi Haggis,

It shouldn`t have leaked, froth or not. Is everything tight that should be tight and are all the seals in good order. Olive oil is recommended to lube these.

Sorry I can`t be any more helpfull.

My two peneth's worth is, as far as towing with it filled up, I guess it depends on how the balance of the van is effected. If you have an end washroom, 15 kg of water will have a much more significant effect on noseweight than 15kg on a mid washroom that's on/near the axle line.

As long as you're within your payload & noseweight limits, I see no problem with travelling with a full tank. The fuller the tank, the less "sloshing" you'll get. The emptier the tank, the less effect any sloshing would have, so I guess the worst case would be a half full tank, but is 7 or 8kg REALLY going to upset a van's stability!

As for filling, we stick the shower head hose out of the window (after taking the head off) & fill from that.

Happy 'vanning

Neal

I carry a 5ltr watering can that I use to fill mine .. so it gets 5 ltrs at a time .

I have never known " frothing " and like George use the "pink flush " liquid and also never had a weight related  towing problem ......why fill it right up when you leave home  to go to a site ?..... it works fine with just a couple of  ltrs if you have to "go " on the way  and it takes no time at all to top up when you get there.

Back to the key point - should the flush have leaked or not? .maybe! (stick my neck out time) i do not think the toilet or flush is designed to be towed in a full state .a point i read today, says the fittings and fixtures of the water tank and toilet are not strong enough to be towed when full.(if you had to brake hard )also the extra weight could make you too heavy(MTPLM) if a road side weight check was done.need to ask the caravan makers. FROM PC MAG.The police (or is it VOSA?)are now stopping caravans and using portable stress guages to measure the weight at each wheel and the jockey.
My neighbour was stopped and found to be 200kg overweight and was not allowed to continue until his son arrived and transferred items to his car to reduce the weight to that on the plate.

After this, I bought a Reich Weight control and found mine to be 130kg overweight, also there was a large difference between the axles.
This was with no food or clothes in the van but the 50 litre on-board tank and 14 litre water heater were full. Emptying these balanced the weight across the axles and by transferring items such as the awning ground sheet etc. to the car, the caravan can now be legally towed.
This situation was brought about by having a motor mover and a Supermule fitted. I have now, regretfully, removed the motor mover and sold it to allow for more allowance for other items.
Out of interest I checked my son's Avventura and this was 300kg overweight!

Haggis, for the record I tow with my flush full at times and have never experienced any frothing or leaks. My van has an end bathroom and I have never experieced any unbalance or other bad behavior when towing. I always check my noseweight before hitching up.  Also, because the shower is seperate from the WC [they`re on opposite sides of the bathroom] I can only fill my flush using a plastic water carrier.I place the carrier on the cooker top and syphon the water, via the open caravan door, into the external flush inlet with a piece of hose - job done!

I still think you have a leak somewhere.

A final postscript to this story

We were off again this weekend and I dutifully drained the flush (I thought) completely, before leaving our storage area.

After arriving at our destination how disappointed was I to find that once more we have foaming water in the bathroom area - everything was soaked again.  At this point I assumed that I had not completely emptied the flush reservoir and took a mental note to phone the dealer.

So fast forward to Sunday morning and I'm having a quick wash at the fold-down basin - I flip up the basin to empty it and what do I see - you've guessed it a reservoir full of soapy water at the back of the basin (where you tip thw water into).  Basically the sink drain reservoir was blocked with (I think) a bit of soap.  Some quick prods with a metal coathanger and god knows how many litres of water suddenly emptied out into our waste container.

So that explains the "foamy" water.  Nothing to do with the cassette toilet. Just a blocked sink ultimately.  On travelling home all was well at the other end.

So thanks for all the input. Sorry to have misled you all with my faulty diagnosis.

Yours sheepishly!
