Thanks everyone....This is a real nightmare for us, but you lot make it sound sooooo easy. I know we've got to do it and i know if we do get stuck you lot will be able to help..I love my van & to pull her apart is going to break my heart. More so if we start the job & can't finish it, or maybe she looks a mess when we've done...Where do i get caravan wallpaper from to match the wallboards, I know some of you have used wallpaper but i don't know if you have used special stuff or not?

When you take the bit of damaged wallboard off, peel off the paper from the wallboard and take it along to your nearest DIY store and see if they have anything that is near enough or the same as. If using wallpaper I used PVA glue to put the wallpaper up.
I have two big sheets of wallboard spare in my shed just in case I get the dreaded damp! There are a few places based over in Hull the best I found been O'Learys Motorhomes http://www.olearymotorhomes.co.uk/. Swift use a board called Hupa or Aztec quite a bit in their vans I'm told.
I know from dealing with Kenmore Caravans over in Mirfield you can nip into their workshop and they've normally got alot of offcuts/wallboards (already papered and hopefully matching your van) that they can/do sell.
If you do not feel like doing it yourself, I can recommend Peter Roberts Caravans in Honley near to Holmfirth.
Their number is 01484 662774. It is two brothers Peter and Andy and they are brilliant and do not charge a fortune. They will call out to see the van and give you an estimate. My Hubby is perfectly able to do any jobs on the van but so far having the Roberts brothers has been easier and quicker at not a huge amount.
Hi everyone, great responses coming in & what i'm reading is making me feel more & more confident in doing the job......
mjd245 : What a mess......but by the photo's i can see that your not going to let any damp beat you.. Good luck...Can't wait to see the end product as you seem to know what your doing..
Kev & Debi : Now got the PVA glue on my list. Thank Q...
Cosy : I was thinking Hull as well, thats were Swift made my van. If its still there. I also visit Kenmore at Mirfield so i'll be asking them about the Wallpaper or board there. Thanks for the info.
Maryloo : Thank you for info & tele number. It helps having someone so near if you really do get stuck & from what you say are quite reasonable in price. I have it in my head that if we can't do it when we've already started it, then the vans going to the scrap yard. But if there's somebody near who could save our day & help when we get stuck then it gives a little light at the end of the tunnel.
Hi, I have recently purchased a Sprite Panache caravan , but have found a section of wall board that is rotten. I feel confident enough to tackle the job, but i am not sure what adhesive to use when bonding the wall board to the spars and polystyrene insulation.
I have a Swift Corvette. It is the 1990 model. It has recently displayed damp problems on the off side wall. It is still in one piece, does not smell or show damp. I went up on the roof and caulked up all the possible places I could see. I have had this van for two years now and it only cost me £600 with everything thrown in, including awning which was new. Caulking it has stopped any further problems, but the inside of the Van is soft in a couple of places on the off side. Feels firm on the near side. Right at the front and right at the back, with a small bit where the shower room is. It only feels squishy from the inside right at the bit at the front offside
but i am not sure what adhesive to use when bonding the wall board to the spars and polystyrene insulation. You can use Sikaflex 512 Caravan tube mastic ( not cheap , buy from caravan shops etc , TigerSeal ( buy from ebay ) , and EvoGrip ( non solvent type , buy from B and Q ) . Note when sticking wall baord do zig zag lines of sealant and not circles on the board .
When I did mine, I used 'Pink grip' which a builders adhesive, which doesn't have any solvents in it, as these would otherwise possibly damage the polystyrene. It seemed to stick my board back just fine. As Wizard suggested, do it in zig zag lines, not dabs or circles.
You can buy this stuff from builders merchants in a big plastic tub (at least I did a few year back) and apply it with a large notched trqoel, like the ones for floor tiles.
Hi, I replaced all the wall boards with 3mm marine ply and insulation, fixed it to new insulation (kingspan) with this adhesive
much cheaper goes a lot further and worked a treat

After which I chose to paper with good quality paper from any wallpaper retail outlet. The easiest way i found was to soak the paper in water (to prevent bubbles and to stretch paper) and paste the wall boards with pva glue slightly watered down for easy application, this made papering fairly easy.
Oh dear, i'm watching this thread cuz we've found damp in our dearly loved caravan, we seem to have it at the rear at either side. We think we're gonna tackle it ourselves, but can anyone advise of someone in the Staffordshire area just in case it all goes pear shaped. We found it in the bathroom area and have now just got back from hols and found more (alot more spongy to touch) in the wardrobe. Is it a case of taking the bull by the horns and chopping away to see what ya find? It is truly heartbreaking when a van has served you so well to start ripping at it. We are absolute beginners and new to the site, so any links and advice are truly appreciated
If you at all diy minded then just go with the advice given and you'l be fine.
Sorry I stay in Scotland so won't be able to help but i'm sure you won't need it. Any problems just ask!
