Nope you need the 12v switch to pump the water into the hot water tank. Once that is done connect the 240 mains.

I think what I have done is flick all switches on then
pumped the water through thus the heater has gone on and the thermal cut out has activated to stop the element from burning out.

there is 2 separate fused switches at the side of the rcd board I think I have to let the water come through before I switch one of these on
