Its just a bog-standard plastic container, like a clear version of one of those green jerry-cans that you used to put petrol in. It carries quite a bit of water, but is still light enough for me to lug across the field. It has a little plastic tap thingy built into the cap but its quicker to take the cap off. I think it came with the van when I bought it. We only started using it at the end of August when we washed the van on the pitch (God it takes ages without a hose!!) and then thought it was ideal for topping up, rather than dragging the aquaroll across when there was already quite a bit of water in it. I think they're quite common, though black seems to be the normal colour.
Thanks Karen
there was at some time a mention in one of the posts on water, a device that automatically syphoned water into the aquaroll from another container as the level dropped. I had hoped this was what you meant.
I dont have a shower i this van, but if I did, id use it, cant see the point of having it and not using, especially with the state of the block at the site ive been at this week
Most of the time we use site facilities, but if there is a queue for the showers or they aren't very good then we use our own.
The only stipulation i have is the roof vent is left open and all walls are wiped down. We have a seperate shower cubicle but in the old van it was part of the toilet, same principle applied.
Nope don't use ours as the site has A1 showers and loos. We use the loo at night only. I would be scared of water ingress and damp to be honest.
me too,i like the site ones.this is what you pay for on club sites.they are very clean.i always mop after myself some do not.caravanned for 7 years and never use the van one.but our grandchild has once.he wants to use site ones now.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
We wanted a shower and loo in our van because we intend to stay on site without facilities. Only used the van once since we got and tried out the shower, I was most impressed. There is only the two of us so room was not an issue but a bit of "luxury" was important.
A shower is very handy not only if you want to stay on a site without facilities but also on sites which are open in the winter but the facilities are closed (same thing really!) which is done in case of frost.
My wife complained a couple of times of the state of the showers and the loos. She had to have a shower everyday she did feel comfortable washing her private parts in front of everyone also sharing the sink with others. The shower floors were muddy so she had to wear her flip flops and the showers were cold. The loos were dirty at times. This is wny my wife wants to buy a caravan. We are only looking to spend £2000 for a 5 berth. If we buy an early 92 model would it be safe to have a shower?
------------- Its not what you know, its who you know!
If you use CC or C&CC sites you should get a much better standard of cleanliness, we have always found the CC ones really clean. And they have individual basin cubicles too.
We use our shower frequently, it is a separate one but not one of the "one piece" compartments. The walls are plastic covered and all the joins neatly sealed and we have had no problems. We always dry down after use, open the window, and use our Omnivent extractor, which we find excellent.
As long as the walls are waterproof, any joins well sealed (check carefully and frequently), you should be fine
As long as you get it checked out (or take the word of the previous owner as I did - I am SO gullible!) age shouldn't be a problem. Our van is a 1990 Swift Challenger that I paid £2400 for early last year (methinks I paid too much on hindsight), and I use the shower every day when I'm there.
We dont use the shower in the van, o/h and the kids would be happy to, but I wont let them, our van is a 1989 model, which has already had a damp repair in the bathroom which is fine now, but with it being an all in one bathroom/shower I feel the condensation/steam would end up causing damp problems. If we had a seperate shower compartment I wouldn't have a problem using it.
we have never used the shower in ours just the onsite facilities, mostly all have been OK,I always use the Domestos sterilising spray £2.75 a can, just pray it in the shower and on the controls wait thirty seconds and its germ free. Not caught anything grisly so far.
