I thinks as regards being level that applies more if running fridge on gas.  And you wouldn't be running it on gas while towing

My two pennyworth.      If you have a grey S socket

1.  Set all van control panel switches to OFF

2.  If the VAN  / CAR switch is a single rocker leave in in the central position

3'   Switch the fridge to 12v   (  1 or ON  as opposed to O or OFF )

4.   Starting the car will open a relay and the the fridge switch will light and all will

be well.    The relay  prevents car battery drain when the engine isn't  running.

Hi

You should have the switch set to car if you want to charge the battery and run the fridge while you are towing you will also have to make sure that the battery charger is switched on, you will need to set the fridge to the battery position as well

BoBo, I can't get my head around why the charger would need to be turned on while the van is being towed. How can it possibly make any difference due to it being a 240 volt charger that charges a 12volt battery?

The towbar wiring has a relay in it to charge the battery on the van & run the fridge off the car electrics as long as the engine is running. Unless I've been wrong all these years. I'd like to know if I am.

Starting the car will open a relay and the the fridge switch will light and all will

be well.    The relay  prevents car battery drain when the engine isn't  running

to make it worse,i think you will find that ALL fridges wired through the car 12s comes through a relay and this will not operate until certain revs are reached, and this is not tick over speed.so it will not operate/switch on unless you are actually driving.this prevents battery drain[:o)]or sat in the car reving it up high

the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Well............ours works even when the engine is just "ticking over" .  Must be a good Volvo!!!    Read in a thread a wee while ago about some cases where the 12v light flashes while engine "ticking over" so indeed it is not uncommon!

yes thats where i got it from,it was PC mag.the guy was saying the light did not work all the time and was flashing on and off when plugged in to 12V and the reply was as i  say it depends on engine speed and what the trip on the relay is set at.some will some will not.[:o)]

If its a voltage sensing relay it will depend on alternator output/engine speed.

If its th older type of relay wired to an ignition source (for switching on) then it will be working as soon as the ignition is on.

Its all very well saying look at the fridge warning light but many recent fridges by Dometic and Theteford were not fitted with warning lights.

See my previous posting above
