When going out for the day, do any of you leave your windows & curtains open & your caravan door unlocked?

I agree with the people who say that campers and caravanners are honest people and would not steal from anyone else on the site. Our concern is sites that do not have a barrier, or are accessable to the public it would be so easy for someone to lift all sorts to sell at boot sales e.t.c. and we are not prepared for the sake of a pound or two spent on locks to risk it. I work hard for what I have and I am not going to give anyone the chance of taking it from me.

I think very often we get that feel good factor when we are away on holiday and do not see things quite the same as we do at at home. How many of us would leave our belongings at the garden gate and still expect it to be there in the morning.

On a slightly different note, at Clumber Park 3 weeks ago we were warned that bike thief's were coming into the park on an evening/night and targeting the expensive machines. (that's ours out!!)

The original post asked about water barrels, many posts later we still have not one account of barrels going missing.

No-one I know as lost one, seems that if all the people here dont know of one going missing, must be a very very very rare crime.

all down to personal choice, if youre happy its very rare dont lock it, if you will sleep happier put a lock on.

Oh please!

"I agree with the people who say that campers and caravanners are honest people and would not steal from anyone else on the site."

Yes, I suspect all of those here fall into that category, and MOST campers & caravanners are honest, but look around! This is Britain 2005!

There is no legal requirements to become a camper, no tests to pass, no agreaments to sign, no morality check clear to avoid being black-balled!

ANYONE can go camping. there are plenty of other posts that have gone along the lines of "where has the camoraderie gone?" "why don't people talk each other like they used to?" etc, etc, etc.....

It's a sad state of afairs, but it's the truth! If you feel secure leaving stuff on display & unsecured, then go ahead. If you sleep better knowing there's a chain & padlock around it, so be-it. The choice is down to the individual.

But please don't pretend that thefts don't happen - OK, knicking of wastemasters & aquarolls may be a bit extreme (so far), but plenty here have already said they've had stuff pinched, so it does happen.....maybe they were non-campers who have nipped in for a bit of pillaging......maybe they weren't.....maybe they were that ever so slightly scruffy family on the other side of the filed with the noisy kids kicking balls against other peoples caravans and riding their bikes too fast with snotty noses and a spitting problem!

Sorry, rant over!
