Theres a SB1800 installation manual here

Truth is though the automatic temp control versions are little if anything better than the standard one, just more to go wrong.

What you must do on all 1800's is check the fires steel gas pipes under the floor, they will be a bit rusty but they must not be pitted. If you cannot scratch a clean line with a sharp knife then they need changing.

The one in the picture is an SB'E' 1800 'Caravelle', E for electronically controlled temperature, (where did the picture come from??). Fact is this was the dogs do-dars as far as caravan heating went and nothings come close since.

The downside was it is prone to going wrong, mostly due to lack of service and also possibly to an overall fear of them in the repair shops, that's still the same today judging by the amount of dealers sending them to me??

The other problem is it switches itself on and off automatically and many howl while warming up, put the two together in the middle of the night and you begin see why Carver gave up making them in 1988/9

One other problem with them is when they are on they are on full bore, this gets the steel top of the fire front very hot, hot enough to skin a childs hand!!!.

To anyone with this heater and small children...fit a guard

Possible I suppose but a darn sight quicker/easier to take it out and work on it upside down on the bench

Dear all wise writers,

I have just bought a caravan with a carver 1800, all it needs is a new gas pipe I believe,
Where would one precure such an item? From the ignition, its about a foot long weaving past the other pipes and through the floor where it goes straight and is rotten,
My question is, do I replace it with a straight bit of pipe and bend it into place or do I need a rigid, specific replacement?
Thank you for reading.
