Hi,

I am need some advice on adding a socket to the outside of my caravan so that i can use awning llights without trailing an extension out through the windows. Can i spur off the side light that is already there? Is it 12 volts or mains? can anyone advise me please.

the awning light is 12V.you could maybe get away with two more lights not very bright added as an extension,any more the fuse could not cope.would be better to add an outside 240V socket.

If this INLET socket is to be additional to an existing 240v circuit already installed on the caravan then if a supply is already connected to the caravan the exposed pins would be live and therefore dangerous.  While I do not know the part No. a socket similar to the type the mains lead is pluged into on site would be required ie with holes to recieve the pins of a mains lead.  An OUTLET socket is required to be safe.  However if the intention is to add a mains connection to the caravan then the above part is correct for connection of the mains lead from an external supply.

Michael, how the devil do you find these parts.  I had tried before posting the reply above and could only find surface and panel sockets.

no secret really.when i find a site that has parts or anything useful for future reference i save it to favorites,just means looking through the favorites when you want a part.after a time you get to know where they are and who is the supplier.
