Hi

I've just polished the caravan using MER, which did a really good job.

Reading the label it says to use it on car windows (but not the windscreen) which got me wondering about the caravan windows. They get an awful lot of dirt & grit etc. thrown at them as I tow it up and down the motorway.

So I wonder if there's any really good polish on the market that might help protect them (same reason I polished the caravan). There's a lot of acrylic window cleaners in my local dealers but no acrylic polish.

Does anybody know of and can recommend one?

The main reason why they tell you not to put wax polish on the windscreen is because it could smear when you use your windscreen wipers. Since you don't have windscreen wipers on the other windows there's no problem. However, it depends what is in it regarding whether or not it is safe for acrylic windows. Acetone (nail polish remover) will react with acrylic and make it opaque.

I doubt that car polish has anything like that in it or it would possibly strip the paint off your car. Why not test your car polish on some acrylic or plastic, and if it doesn't react then it should be ok on your caravan.

The only test area I have is the windows themselves which makes me very reluctant knowing the price of replacements.

Also it might appear O.K. in the short term and then go bad over a period of time. I seem to remember MER saying it's O.K. on opaque acrylic. I still want to see through mine.

Yes, I appreciate the concern. I once ruined the door window on a brand new washing machine by trying to get the sticky labels off with nail varnish remover - lol.

I believe somebody once said on these boards that WD40 was a good cleaner and polisher for acrylic windows...but I've yet to try it...maybe I'll try it on the washing machine first

The windows are still fairly pristine (15 months old) so don't need a scratch remover yet and I'm a bit reluctant to use WD40 as a polish although I'm aware it's a good sticky remover.

The only thing I can find in the caravan dealers which seems O.K. on acrylic windows is Fenwicks "Bobby Dazzler" so perhaps I need to give the windows regular rinses with that.

I'm not over concerned but assume that polish protects the bodywork from grit etc. and will perhaps do the same for acrylic windows.

Am I wrong oldmrfenwick?

Well, I recently polished my windows with WD40 and they came up a treat. The surrounds had become really dull and unsightly and they sparkled like new.
