I have rung Bernard and you appear to be right - he seems very knowledgeable and confident he can do something - either repair or replace with reconditioned - either way a whole lot cheaper than a new one. Will be taking it over to him as soon as he has some time in his diary.

Only thing now is I have two quotes on the damp repair - 3,500 pounds from one and minimum of 2,000 pounds from another (along with advice to "scrap it" and call it a day). Since I don't have either 2,000 or 3,500 pounds to spend and don't feel inclined to scrap what is otherwise a very good caravan, I have started the repair myself (guided by the very useful details given on this site by others) - just doing the horrible bit at present - stripping out all the rotton wood and panels. 

On that subject, does anyone know a good source of all the various bits and pieces that you need. I am looking for rail & trim inserts (lengths of white plastic that slide into the rails to cover up the screws) and also where best to buy the interior boarding - ceiling boards (sort of textured off-white) and wall boards (oak veneer).

Oye of little faith, the man 'doesn't seem'...he is little short of a genius  

Last one I sent him came to me complete... well the parts such as they were all came in a box. I sorted out what might be salvageable, (little more than the outer covers really), and sent them on to Bernard for the boiler to be sent direct back to the customer. A month later £50 came my way from a highly satisfied customer as a very welcome but totally unexpected thank you.

You should be able to get the ceiling board and trim from O'Leary's Oak faced board you can get from your local 'Masons' woodyard
