Upon taking my (t)rusty Monza out for it's first spin in 5 months, I turned the kitchen tap and nothing happened. same with the bathroom one, and both worked fine last time. The battery is fully charged and the pump works because I stuck the DC wires straight from the battery into the pump and it whirred away happily (though not sure this was a good idea).
Any ideas as I'm trying to avoid electrician expense!
Don't know for sure, but there dosn't seem to be much pressure going on with the tap and it's a very basic 'van so I doubt anything's pressuised! Just an audible click as you start to turn it (which still occurs, just nothing happens). From memory, there's no variation in flow. just on /off. Does this sound like a micro-switch to you?
when you turn the tap into the on position you should here a click but also the pump should start to run straight away.does this not happen?just a thought if you have the carver 2 heater have put back the drain plug?if there are wires going to the taps on the underside then you have micro switches.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
That's what used to happen...after the click the pump would kick in, but not now. We just have cold water only. I'm visiting the van (in storage) tomorrow so I'll check for wires goining up to the taps. Any other tips?!
The 12V fuse switch is on. we don't have mod cons like a car / caravan switch on our old lady-less to go wrong I suppose, and sorry didn't make it clear it is on cold water as that's all we have. Good job as the water heater looks pretty fiddly from the diagram!
The bloke in a caravan shop yesterday advised us we probably had microswitches and to spray a bit of WD40 on 'em. Failing that I'll follow ClanJones's adice and Kick it!
Thanks for the web site, Michael. Looks like it might be a connection problem as the pump definitely runs, just not when it's connected to the van when either tap is tried.
I've bookmarked the web site for potential future use!
if you can get at the rear of the tap and get the two wires off the micro switch and join them temporary.if the pump runs the the micro switch is duff.

If you cant hear the pump running when you turn the tap then its Not going to be a valve or O-ring, it Will be an electrical fault. It might be a microswitch problem but as the kitchen and bathroom taps have the same problem its a little unlikely, it's more likely to be a problem with connections where the pump connect's to the van socket (if this socket appears in a storage locker check that a wire has not been pulled loose) or a problem with the 12v running to the microswitches.
Hope this helps a liitle bit - if you are happy to go proding around with a voltmeter or test lamp then you will soon find the problem as your setup is very basic; if not you might know a local sparky or electronics hobbyist who would be able to track down the problem in no time.
