Just about to undertake a large damp repair job on my Elddis Hurricane. I have contacted all my local merchants for ply board, but they can only supply 4mm and not the 3mm which is recommended on the repair sites. My question is what is the problem with using 4mm ply in areas where the board difference can be lost into corners.I would apreciate any comments. Thanks
Can't see any problem using 4mm if matching isn't an issue. Just wondering if the extra 1mm might make fitting window rubber seals a little tight, but probably not!
I didn't have any problems getting 3mm external red ply from my local builders merchants last year which they had in stock. They dropped off 2 sheets of 6' x 8' for £7 delivery charge, which saved a lot of hassle!
Using thicker ply will add more weight and it can be a pain to get it to flex in arears where it is needed, curved roof etc. I did actually use 4mm on the door repair 8 years ago and ended up having to spend ages redoing it all using thiner timber framing as it was just too tight in the frame. Trial and error is one of me favourite tricks with DIY, lol
Great links Michael, will have to add them to my site when I get back to working on it! Giving it a wee rest till I get to adding the tons of info I have collated since taking ill! (Will take years lol!!!!)
Still looking for a Glass window supplier that isn't after me getting a mortgage! - Opting for sheets of acrylic for the repair!

if you take the whole window to a good glass glass place they should be able to cut it for you and fit it,not cheap we had a 1900s door done a while back and releaded.
