Mine are held on by screws, perhaps someone might be along soon to explain how yours come off.
Actually there is an alternative method that you might like to try.... just place two bowls behind the van, inline with the handles, then tip the 'van onto it's back. Hey presto job done, saves all the trouble of trying to get them off (you might need some assistance... and make sure the opened wine bottles in the 'van are stoppered, otherwise well, what a waste!)
