Well i have had my caravan now for 3 - 4 weeks and purchased as a doer upper :D

didnt notice the damp in the nearside front ofthe van ! after sortng out the zig unit , replacing 2 sky lights door lock whale 991 water pump to say a few im now turning to the damp !! been  a mechanic wood is not my strong point !! but im tackling it this weekend ! so armed with mastic rolls grip fill and a staple gun and a pencil im going in !!

sorted some wall boards out for £7 each 7x4  few of them to allow for slight errors lol.

what i need to know really is , what size is the wood frame between the outer wall (ali) and wall board ??

i looked on the damp website and says 3/4" is this right ? and to use 20mm ply for the grab handle base ?

hope you lot will help as you always have in the past couple of weeks

and you never know i might even photo it :D :D :D

ps its a mid to late 80s swift corniche

many thanks lee

Leelandy,

The only way to know for sure what thickness the wood frame is on your 'van is to measure it, as it varies between manufacturers.  Mine is 25mm, with 3mm thk wallboard, and 1.6mm thk aluminum, making about 30mm thk sandwich.  The rubber seals round the windows are 32mm wide, leaving about 2mm for the mastic sealant.

I found 25mm thk wood hard to get, but B&Q do pressure treated stuff (greenish apperance) at exactly 25mm thk.  You don't need pressure treated stuff but it does not do any harm!

I used 18mm ply for the grab handle base, which in my case was the entire front shelf.

Hope this helps,
