As some of you may know already, we bought our first Van about a month ago, but have not been out in it yet, as i prefer to do a thorough check to make sure things are working ok. (This is a 1990 Eccles Topaz)

Took the fridge out tonight, as I've read on here to turn it upside down to get the liquids mixing back up again, as it wasn't getting very cold... Anyway, eventually got the fridge out, and noticed the copper gas pipe which runs from under the floor is looking a bit brittle and old to say the least. I have noticed you can now get flexible gas hoses? If so, can i just detach the old one and fit new ones? Also, where would i get them from? (Not that we'd ever use Gas, but i want things to be safe)

Secondly, the hose which connects the bottles up in the front look a little worn & old, but not looked underneath to see if it's all copper or rubber - Wondering if anyone can tell me what I'm looking for, and of course, if i can change them easily?

Onto the electrics side of things;
There seems to be ONLY 2 240v & 1 12v Sockets in the Van, both located near the TV shelf, and no-where near ideal places, the previous owner has left an extension in there to run things from, and this i DO NOT like at all, so would it be ok to piggy-back from the back of one socket and into another? Same for the 12v (Not as though we use 12v Sockets)

I've also just fitted an External power socket into the side of the Van, and this needs wiring up! This i can do, but just checking I'm doing it right by just wiring into the back of another socket?

Another concern would be the Van has NO Zig or Control unit, just power into a Labcraft Unit / Charger and then into a fuse box under the seat - the kind you would see in a house! I'm a little concerned and would like to fit a unit like the Zig, so would this be doable?

Sorry for such a long post, but we're booked in for 13th August, taking my Mum & young brother away, and would like for things to be right, and give me piece of mind!

Thanks for reading!
Dean & Poppy.

hiya, you need to keep the pipe to the fridge riged copper, replace the rubber hose to the gas bottle this is cheap from any van dealers. there sould be no rubber hose under the vanit is illegal as well as unsafe. do you have a consumer unit??????? it should have, if so does it have two outlets, if yes you would be better wiring new sockets to the spare one if not just spur off existing socket but not to many extra sockets

you can fit a zig with a little dedication, however you will need one that is right for the job ie right number of fused outlets ect

Consumer Unit? What's one of those then? :D

Could anyone suggest the correct Zig Unit?

I'm no trained sparky, but a damn quick learner and dedicated :D

I'm a gadget man, so i need lots of power :)

Yes, there looks to be a bank of 4 behind the window... 2 Slimline ones, with the `flick` switches, then one with nothing on, only a sticker, and then a wider one with a `flick` switch and a `press` button below that!

As for what i would need to power, well... Fridge, Water Pump, Toilet Flush, Internal & External Lights, Kettle, Toaster, Microwave, Awning lights.... As much as possible really :D

I've also noticed that the 12v System wiring is horrible. 1 Wire from the 12v, into an old fuse box, with 5 fuses, and wiring coming from that, into a Birds' Nest, and then to where-ever... Can i change this or possibly have it integrated into the Zig Unit?

Dean

hi mate looks like you ok with mains yes you can fit a zig all you need is power in and then distribute 12v out through the fuses easy peasy, however you will also have to consider wether you need one with a charger or have you a seperate one
