This is our first caravan bought last year - private sale. We realised soon it had damp and on its service it was highlighted - the seals on one of the front windows was replaced. We were told it would dry out - however this is not the case. It is becoming more spongy to the touch (the panelling just below the window).  It is also becoming spongy on the other side of the opposite window. Apart from the damp mentioned it is in otherwise excellent condition and we cant afford a new caravan. I have found an excellent website created showing a repair to excatly the same problem and model where the whole front end was replaced. Howver there were no contact details for him - does anyone know a rough ball part cost of taking out the front section and replacing. many thanks

Hi my name is Wizard and this is my Caravan repairs website , i thought i'd make up a site to help caravaners with their damp caravans , why pay a fortune to have it repaired , when you could repair it yourself ( with a bit of advice from the Fixed it Club members ), i hope you find the information useful.

There's some links to other Fixed it Club members websites at the bottom of the page. If you'd like to contact me you'll find my email address on Ukcampsite , look for Wizard9956 on the message boards , in the caravans section

That will be the front window hanger, replacing/resealing window rubbers will not stop it.

I had a 1992 Colchester same design and the rain runs off the roof and in behind the window hanger down inside the front GRP and sits on the wooden window frame.

Caradads site as linked by wizard shows how to repair this which will be easy if you can dry out your boards with a fan heater.

Laurie09,

Sorry I missed you a few weeks ago,  I was away on holiday, and I have just come across youir post today, when I noticed the for sale ad!!

Don't give up that easy.....it is not that hard to do the repair, and I will be about if you have any questions.  If this repair was done at a caracan dealer it could be about £2-3000, making it uneconomical, but as a DIY project would cost between £200-500 depending on how good you are at finding the bits you need!

Doing the repair yourself will be one of the most satisfying things that you can do....especially once you  get away when it is done.
