unfortunately we had a blow out caused by someone elses debris on the road, which caused damage to the exterior interior wheel arch, and everything that sits upon it,   ie a hole in the bottom of the wardrobe thro to the ground and cracked the shower tray.

the caravan was made in 1994 and so we arent sure if it is broken beyond economical repair in the eyes of the insurance company.

if it is written off by the insurance company, is possible to keep the caravan for a lesser payout and do the repairs ourselves?

and also if  it was written off and we repaired it would we have problems insuring or selling it on in the near future.  and would repairing the damage , ie patching the floor cause damp etc

also, if we chose not to keep the caravan, would the insurance company give us the full value of that is was insured for

sorry for all the questions but i am a bit confused and will be gutted to see my caravan go if need be and dont want to be ripped off

When one of my caravans was written off it just wasn't worth repairing - even a bodge job - as the back end was completely smashed in.

The insurance would only pay what they reckoned was the market value which was a lot less than I had paid for it from a dealer 9 months previously. I eventually got them to up their offer by getting letters from 3 independent dealers saying what they thought it was worth, but I still lost about 500 pounds.

thanks caz, sorry to hear about your caravan, need as much advice as possible to ensure we get the best price if its written off.   I dont know what to do for the best as its a great caravan and dont want to lose it, but also dont want to keep if it the repairs are going to leak etc.   we only got it in march this year so feel a bit hard done by....

the caravan was made in 1994 and so we arent sure if it is broken beyond economical repair in the eyes of the insurance company.
I would guess that the insurance company will see it as repairable , but only an estimate will let you know how much it's going to cost .

if it is written off by the insurance company, is possible to keep the caravan for a lesser payout and do the repairs ourselves?
look at it this way , it's your caravan , so don't let them have it , by that i mean , if they write it off and offer you X amount of money ( and you decide to keep the caravan ) tell them to make you another offer that includes you having the caravan as salvage .

and also if  it was written off and we repaired it would we have problems insuring or selling it on in the near future.
If it's written off on the CRiS document or CRiS are told it's been written off , you will need to have it inspected by a caravan dealer ( they will probably insist it has a full service before they inspect it ) , the dealer will write a report saying it's road worthy and has been repaired properly , you then send this off to CRiS .

and would repairing the damage , ie patching the floor cause damp etc
No , as long as you repair it well and seal it up well all should be fine ( but the repairs will have to be pretty good for a caravan dealer to inspect , don't think a patch up will do ) .

also, if we chose not to keep the caravan, would the insurance company give us the full value of that is was insured for
I would think it's unlikely you'll get full value , but if they offer you a low amount and you want more tell them that their offer is not acceptable and they should come back to you with a better offer

Hope this helps , the above is only what i think and i may be wrong in places , so get as much advice as you can before you decide what to do .
