Hi Ant67 , don't worry about them looking , i look at every caravan that pulls up on site , and i'm sure they look at us when we arrive too . I find it interesting to see the type of caravan they have , the make , any mods etc , it has nothing to do with the age of the caravan as to wether i look , i certainly don't stare .
I do find the older caravans more interesting .
We had a Sprite Musketeer 1990 caravan a few years back , and i never saw people  looking down at us , wouldn't care even if they did .

Loving my 94 Elddis....  and 7 year old citroen, anybody who thinks the age of your car or caravan is an issue is probably best avoided..

We had a 1972(ish) Sprite Alpine from about 1984 until two years ago; quite a few people looked, but we never noticed any scorn or contempt - quite a few were complimentary and said they wished they still had their older vans - "...they don't make them as solid and long-lasting nowadays..." was a common opinion!

Im quite tall so I find myself lookind down on other people and they find themseves lookin up to me

now where have I seen a sketch about this  was it the  two ronnies ?

anyway I have a 1985 swift corvette that we have extensivly renovated due to damp and lots of people who have seen my website want to have a look at it for real, we get a sence of pride when we hear their comments,

my advice is just enjoy the caravan you have.

I know how you feel, we have a 1992 Avondale. It does look a bit dated. We looked at a 2006 Vailey at the weekend. We fell in love with it. We could only afford to buy it on finance, over 10 years. We then thought though that the kids will probably not want to spend their holidays in a caravan in 5 years time let alone 10, so we'd be stuck with a caravan we still owe a fortune on thats worth a fraction of what we owe on it that's going to be way to big. We opted to keep the £9K. If I spend a fraction of that on our current van, it could be just as good, if not better. We certainly go to some sites and feel like "the poor relation" then on another site, there are plenty of older vans around.

Anyway, I'm much older than the van anyway, MUCH older, nobody looks down on me!?!

Dont let it worry you, we are all on the same field! We have never had a van younger than 10 years old and have never felt deprived.

I do know what you mean though, I have encountered this myself but me and my wife just laugh at them, they soon scuttle off and hide behind their closed awning curtains.

Hiya, we started caravaning about 2 years ago with a 1984 CI Cosmos Voyager 4 berth. It turned out to be a great van & we had some great times in her, then we discovered the dreaded damp, which we repaired looking forward to yet more good times. Then last year we came into some money by way of an inheritance & decided to change our caravan. The aim was to buy new but saw our current van a 2005 Compass Rallye 524 & decided it was the one for us. We dont owe a penny on our van or towcar only through the generocity of a late aunt. My point being, we are still the same people & I am happy to talk to anybody but I must admit that snobbery does exist in caravaning. I also admit that I look at most caravans that come onto site but purely out of interest. I have also found that this snobbery exists mainly in the two big clubs, but as members of both the two big clubs we dont let the minority spoil what is really a very enjoyable hobby.
