I am getting little black bits in my hot and cold water.  I have ran milton sterilising fluid through 3 times and I a couple of barrels of water but I am still getting small black bits.  It seems to come when the water is not running constantly and if there is a little blip in the stream I get bits when flow purges through.  The taps are not micro switched.  It is a coachman mirage,  Anyone any ideas?

These black bits seem to be becoming more common - first they appeared in the flush water (pink) of toilets, and then we found the stuff in the water supply.  They are a form of algae, or mould, which makes a slime-like coating inside the aquaroll, inside the water pipes from the pump, and can grow inside the pipes in the van!!!    It grows in humid conditions, at the correct temperature and at correct light levels!  Apparently this year is a good year!   You may find a thick coating of the stuff if you ever strip down your pump or inside the two pipes from pump to van!  It smells AWFUL too, if you do this!!  It really put me off the caravan water supply, and I've mentioned it previously on this forum with a variety of replies.

For the pink flush, Thetford suggested an additive which stops this algae or mould growing.  There are various suggestions about cleaning your water supply in the thread called 'How clean is your aquaroll''.  (You can read the replies if you search for the thread).  We've thoroughly cleaned our system, (again) with Puriclean, leaving it 24 hours in the supply, before flushing through with copious amounts of water - and don't seem to have a problem at the moment.  However, it completely put me off drinking the water which comes through the taps in the caravan, even boiled!  Sadly, we've gone back to filling up the kettle from the site tap!   I've said previously that I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about it - and I'm sure it should be properly tested by 'Elf and Safety' and a thorough analysis of exactly what it is, and what harm (or good) it might be doing anyone who drinks any of the stuff!  It's unpleasant enough to see it in the pink flush when you use the loo, but absolutely off-putting in the water from the taps.

Hi folks, We've had the same problem in our van, the first thing to check if your has a water filter, if thatt's split then that could be your problem, if as in our case there is no filter it's a differant story, i thought at first it was algae in the water pipes in the van, but is was'nt that, by a process of ilimination i discovered it was algae growing in the pipe from the pump to the inlet, gave the pump and pipe a good clean, cleaned the filters in the tap spouts, no more bits.

Hi

Fridge manufacturers reccommend a Sodium Bicarbonate solution for cleaning the innards.

We use it to clean our Thermos flask every year and Tea stained mugs. It brings them up a treat. I wonder if it would clean your system out too.
