Maplin's are knocking one out for £99.99, reduced from £149.99. They say it'll remove 7 litres of water per day. That'll take care of one of my problem spots The link: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=220965&doy=12m10 Are they any good and do they do what it says on the tin? Did think about hiring one back when we first found the problem but the cost was more than the one above. Also they were like Hen's teeth at the time and couldn't find one anyway. All those poor souls who had got flooded out needed them more than me. So, a worthwhile investment or not?
They really do work, it's amazing how much water they churn out. We use them all the time in our Guide Hall, and DD has one in her flat as her bathroom has no window and only a feeble extractor fan.
Just check it has sufficient capacity for your needs.
I want to make sure the caravan dries right out. Thought it had when I resealed the problem areas but I'm a bit paranoid now whenever I get a reading on the damp meter. Also need 5 miles of cable to connect it up at the storage yard Seriously, if I thought they really were that good it would be a minor inconvenience to park the van on the drive for a week or two and may well be worth it just for peace of mind. Thanks for your info.
You will get a lot of water out in a caravan, there is so much ventilation and therefore damp air coming from outside!! The tank in the dehumidifier only holds so much (maybe 5 litres) and it will switch off when full, so you would probably need to empty it daily for fastest drying. You do get some where you can attach a pipe to drain the water, you could put it out through a floor vent, so it keeps going as long as required. That is how we run the ones in our Guide Hall.
yes we use one on a regular base.also use one in the caravan.they do work.most will say you are only sucking air from outside but to me you need to remove the air inside first.keeps our van cosy and warm even on cold days.the one in the van cost £20 from woolworths.ours is on a timer of 6 hours a day.i am lucky in that we have it on the drive.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I've never had or used one in 30+ years of caravanning.
If you've no leaks or left the caravan damp after a wet out leaving wet awnings coats etc in it then it'll be as dry at the end of the winter as the beginning.
A couple of hours with the heater on to warm/air it on arrival at site is all it needs in my opinion.
Funnily enough, taking a tip from off here, I placed umpteen tubs of salt in the van a fortnight ago. Went there on Friday expecting to find they had absorbed water and found the salt as dry as when I had left it. Still free flowing and dry. Beginning to think I need therapy for my paranoia instead of gadgets
i am going to try a dehumidifier in my van this week i'll let you know how i grt on if you do try it you have got to seal all the vents remember the ones on the floor normally under the seats/oven/&fridge dont forget unseal them when your finished i'm also going to leave the heating on and make small holes in the paneling &fill them with sillacone when i'm finished
