Hello all i've recently purchased my first van and have been running it mainly off mains but now and again it's been running off battery while i've been doing it up. Problem is i presumed it would be trickle charging but tonight the battery light has gone on red. How does it trickle charge? ( i know you need your hook up on) is there anything supposed to be connected to the battery? Is there any way i can set it up to trickle charge? I'm going away a week tomoz for first time in it and i would like the battery to stay charged! Any ideas would be welcome.
It should trickle charge whilst it's plugged into the mains. If it's an old battery, maybe it's a bit tired and needs boosting by a high amp external battery charger.
I'd check if it is really trickle charging on the van, by taking off the battery connections and see if you get a voltage of about 13 to 14V across the connections. If you aren't, then it wouldn't charge anyway
After these two things, then maybe a new battery is required.
How old is the caravan? They never used to have built in chargers, the 230 v & 12v systems were separate. Is there an on-board charger that you can see? I used to carry a charger and when the battery was running low I charged it from a mains socket whilst the EHU was on.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
