Welcome to the forum.

I'd be a bit wary of drilling the side of the caravan, could you not use a bracket that fastens on the jockey wheel?

I use a pair of these http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product/9707-Uni-Bracket_inc__Plate, no drilling if you use the pads provided, but pads not really necessary as they brackets also hold onto the rails already on the side of the van. Alternatively using this mast http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product/1882-Vision_Plus_Uni-Mastyou are provided with one of the brackets.

There is no way that I am prepared to drill into the side of the van, every hole is a potential place for ingress of damp.
