Hi everyone,

We bought a new Lunar Quasar last year and it came with a butane bottle of gas, and I would like to swap it for a propane bottle. Do I have to change anything? My manual says that the vans regulator will take both types. Do I have to have a red regulator coming out of the bottle or can I just swap the existing one over wich has the black on/ off lever on it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

It depends on the system you have. Is there a bulkhead regulator in the front locker. If so all you would need is a different pigtail (pipe) to connect the two. If you don't have the bulkhead system (has been in vans now for about 5 years) you will need a different regulator.

I think its a bulk head regulator, it has an on/off swith at that point (sorry new to caravanning)  its got one pipe coming off that to the bottle with a on/off swith on that. Hand book is very vague, so any help is appreciated.

Sounds like all you need is a pigtail to connect the new bottle, should cost around a tenner.

Thought that was the case, just need to know wether the pipe from there to the bottle is able to change to propane from butane or wether I need another pipe?

There is no colour on the pipe or a blue/ red regulator, just a black pipe with a connection on to the bottle with a black on/off valve, which I always shut off when in storage or during towing.

If you already have a bulkhead mounted regulator you probably won't have to change the pigtail (hose from the regulator to the fitting on the gas bottle) but you will have to change the fiiting on the bottle to suit the new bottle.

When I changed from Calor Butane to BP lite Propane thats all I had to change, apart from the bottles & deposit, it only cost an extra £6 per fitting.

If you are just changing from Calor Butane to Calor Propane, the Calor main dealers will swop over bottles for just the price of the gas, plus they will have the correct fittings as well, just look in your local Yellow pages for the nearest Calor dealer, not just a calor supplier.
