Hi all again

Looking for some more advice please.

Took the van for my first ever camping trip at the weekend just to make sure all was working.

Anyway, took advice and ran a milton/water mix through the system when I arrived. All OK so far.....

I then filled the thetford flush system with water and 'pink' and also a small amount of the blue/water for the waste. However, I was pretty careless with the filling of the flush from the outside and a lot of water slushed past the filler 'spout' and into the compartment where the waste cartridge goes. No big deal I thought until later when I noticed the carpet outside the toilet area was starting to get damp.

Anyway, this became more damp/wet over the next 12 hours until it had covered a 1ft radius half circle of the carpet. Having inspected the outside hatch I noticed a number of joint gaps where the water that I spilt could have easily got in and landed around the base of the toilet floor (under the shower tray). The leak did not appear to be from the toilet itself as it was not blue/bink in colour. It did not seem to get better by the next morning and at this point I wondered whether the problem was actually the water system rather than my spillage, so I disconnected and drained this.

A few hours later and after another set of Bounty kitchen towel the dampness was pretty much dry.

Now, I do not know if the problem was my bad filling of the flush or if the van's water system has a leak. I did check the pipes to the shower controls and the sink tap in the toilet and these were fine. Also checked around the heater as far as I could and other than some water/dampness in the corners that butt onto the toilet (therefore would probably be the same leak in toilet area) I could see no problem there.

So, I have a number of questions. I plan to reconnect and run the water on the van this weekend to prove if the system is the problem but to prepare me for the outcome can anyone advise:

1. Has anyone done anything similar whilst filling the flush and if so what was the outcome

2. Is it normal to have further connections in the pipes (hot/cold) in the shower/toiler area as outside of this I doubt the pipes themselves would be the problem

3. If worst comes to the worst, I need to remove the toilet but it appears that the shower tray also goes the full width (see picture of toilet compartment) - easy job?

Other than that it was a great first experience (seriously)

Thanks Michael. I'm pretty sure the sink drain is not the problem as I did not put any water in it to leak.

Any other ideas?

There could be a loose joint in the pies to the taps.

 redding43 when you open the outside door were you pull the cassette out, if you look under the top tank you will see a pipe with with a  a clear piece on which tells you when the the flush tank is full, follow this pipe underneath the tank and you will see it feeds from both ends of the flush tank, just make sure the the one at the far end of the tank is not leaking, this happended to me in Ireland, the one at the far end was leaking and the water leaked out under the carpet, now you can get a kit which does away with pipe leading to the far end of the flush tank, you just get a bunk to fit in the far one and a new pipe for the end nearest the door with a level guage on, hope this helps.

Thought I would give you an update on this as spent the morning at the van to try to find the problem.

Sensibly I ran the water for a while then left the system full to see if I could see the leak. It was then I noticed a trickle of water running down the side of the Carver Water Heater which is situated outside the toilet wall (under the seat/bunkbed). 5 minutes spent removing the plywood cover and then the Polystyrene (wrong spelling!) uncovered an impressive (!) spray of water coming from the cold water inlet on the white nylon plug. The Hot water inlet was also loose as I could hear water escaping when it was moved. Unfortunately movement of the screws to try to remove them resulted in them snapping. Having searched the web/forum I see this is not an unusual fix.

So, I'm pretty sure this is my leak problem (unless I have an additional leak somewhere else) and thankfully it means I can still use the van by joining the inlet to the outlet pipe whilst I wait for a 'man who can' to sort out the carver for me.

Thanks for all your advice and hopefully this is the problem identified and I will not need to move onto removing the toilet/shower.

You can find the spares you need Here , you can remove the broken off plastic threads still inside the carver body by either heating a large screwdriver and pushing it into the plastic stub , then let it cool a bit and try unscrewing , or use a junior hacksaw blade and cut 4 slits along the length of the thread , only cut the plastic , then break the pieces out with a screw driver .
