  A decent damp meter will cost you £100 + mate , the most commonly used one in the trade is the protimeter and they start at £140 ish for an accurate reading

  £35 jobs like what screwfix sell will detect damp but thats all a good quality meter will give you a percentage. Dont waste your money on these cheap rubbish

The cheap rubbish ones do work. I've got one.

The main problem is the probes are quite big and bull nosed plus they won't detect damp through the plasticky wall paper.

So either sharpen the probes or use drawing pins to stick through the wall paper (less damage that way) and put the probes across the drawing pins.

If I did it for a living I'd buy a professional one butI don't so I'm quite happy to take a bit longer and save some money.
