Hi Anthony,
I found it best to score through the board with a stanley knife into roughly 2 inch squares, I then bent a 2" wide thin gauge metal tool to 90 degrees, but a wall scraper would do, carefully slide behind and you will find it comes off reasonably clean
This way you will be able to remove the old board whilst doing the least amount of damage to the polystyrene behind.
