The hot water is not working when on eletric on our truma unltrstore.  It's working on gas.

I have tried switching of and leaving for 5 mins, I have opened the taps to expel any air and I have completely drained the system down and refilled but still nothing.  The light is not coming on on the control switch but I have tested power up to the heater itself and everything is in order.

I'm guessing the element has gone.  So, does anyone know how much a new element is and where to get one? Or does anyone have any other suggestions as to what could be wrong?

Thanks

Leanne

You're probably OK. I had the same happen to me. The water heater needs to be Stone COLD before the overheat switch resets, some say for 5 minutes but my dealer recommended overnight. If you're running it on gas and the water is hot then it will not reset and work off the electric.

Thanks Mike.  I will get it checked before I splash out money on a new element.

With regard to the over-temp switch fitted to the Ultrastore, when it trips, it disconnects the mains to the element but also connects and internal element which keeps the switch above the threshold it will switch back again.

So the important thing to remember is, it must be totally disconnected from the mains until it does cool down and switch back, switching back to early will instantly re-heat the switch and you will need switch off and leave it again... but this time for longer.

Better still, often this happens when people rely on the hookup to switch it off, make it a rule to actually switch the heater off before you leave site the last time out. Now next time out if you plug the hookup in before filling the water tank it won't trip?!

Spot on Gary, we learned this the hard way, by forgetting to switch off properly in the van before the hookup and then the reverse happened on the next visit, but with no water on board. Now I know why it didn't work all holiday.. LOL ..but was fine the next time we visited the van.

Mick

PS Gary, would you know why only 3 of our 4 gas rings and the grill/oven don't light via the ignition...it's a Spinflo Caprice MK3?? All worked last October before we put it into storage for winter.

Mick, all oven/hobs use basically the same ignition module, each electrode is connected to it's own individual connection on the module and a spark is then delivered to each one in turn in a repeating cycle

As some are working and some not then the likelyhood is a fews fell out or the module has fell off the wall and dangling by the electrode wires

I hope it's not to hard to find the unit? usually up high in the cupboard next to the oven and hopefully not behind the oven!!
