Should take around 10 mins or so. Only a couple of bolts, but they are a bugger to undo. Dont forget to keep the piston depressed. Easy really !

An excellent stabiliser.

The only problem you may have is unhitching.

After pulling up ready to unhitch, gentle pull forward a couple of inches.

This will ensure you can unhitch without any problems.

The slightest "pressure on the hitch spring damper will tend to "lock the stabiliser on".

Piston depressed? Is that like the brake fully on?

Handbrake on.(wouldn't imagine you change hitches with it off !) Read the Winterhoff instuctions.

If you get it wrong and the piston comes out, you can easily push it back in.

To prevent this happening there's a cylindrical piece of metal to insert into the bolthole to hold the piston while you change the hitch. Then it's just knocked out with your replacement bolt !

Be careful where you buy the spare friction pads.  I have seen them in accessory shops for £70 per set.  Proper retail price should be a bit under £30.  I got my spare set direct from BPW.  Can supply address, etc if anyone is interested.

Bertie.

I believe I have read that the friction pads should last around 30,000 Km, which is about 18,000 miles.

I don't know if there is a way to measure the frictional resistance to determine need for replacement.  I have considered making up a bar with a ball welded at its end, and measuring the resistance by clamping the Winterhoff to it, and using a pull gauge at the free end.  You could get a reading for new pads, but I don't know from where you could get a specified minimum reading to tell you when to renew.  So I suppose you have to base it on "feel", in respect of how it seems to perform during actual towing.

Bertie.

There is a wear indicator on the top of the hitch.

Another question? I have an alko tow ball on my shogun will this be ok with the winterhoff? I'm thinking thats it's only an exstendard tow ball! The ball it's self is the same! Is this correct?

Your alko ball will be fine for your Winterhoff.
