Thanks everyone,

I have now set aside Saturday to have a good ferret about and sort it now that I have all your tips!

I'll report back on what I find for your interest!

There is definitely no hot water heater in my van though.

Its a late 1980's model, excellent condition, but no water heating!

Well I had a good root about in the van today and discovered that there is no onboard pressure sensor and its just a micro-switch.

I found the wires leading up to the tap, but unfortunately, its so tight behind the sink that I just cant get at it properly. The only way to get at the tap would be to remove the sink, draining board and gas hob  - which I really dont fancy doing!

I think I may just have to live with it as it is and remember to switch the pump off at the wall each time we finished using the tap.

Thanks for all your help everyone - I at least understand my van a little better now!

Hi GeeEmm , an easy way around this problem is change to a pressure switch system , you'll need to install a inline pressure switch and slightly change the wiring to the pump but that's about it Click_here , fitting the switch will mean none of the tap micro switches will be needed ( they can just be left in place ) .

Do you know I was wondering if that would be a solution. I know that the pump I bought can be both micro-switched or pressure switched.

For just £20 its definite!

I know I can get at the access point where the water comes in very easily as its just beneath the front seats with plenty of room to work.

Just fitting that in-line would be pretty straight forwards.

Thanks for that --- thats next weekend taken care of!

Can you not unscrew the tap fitting from the top. Then the whole tap unit should lift off, wires and all.

There doesnt seem to be any way to do that.

From what I could feel by bending my arm backwards in 3 places and stretching under the sink.... the tap is secured from underneath. Try as I might, I culdnt get enough purchase on the large plastic nut to even think about un-doing it!

I think I will be going down the pressure switch route!
