Yes the battery is used as back up if electric fails or you are on a site without elec tric then you need the battery the best thing i can suggest if you have a plug connector is plug in your electric lead at home and test it before you go away i hope this helps
The battery is needed for some 12volt items , ie water pump , 12volt lights , electric toilet , spark ignition on some water heaters , space heaters and fridges .
Unless you know that your battery charger is a transformer as well , you should either find out or buy a battery , hope this helps.
whatever you do after making up your mind,you must if not using the battery in situ,you must insulate the cables each side by covering them with a plastic bag and string so they cannot come off. although the battery is not there it is still being sent a charge from the charger.if the battery is no good it should be removed for safety reasons. they can overheat and explode.
