I've looked through the site on this, but so far haven't been able to find anything. We are being plagued with small bits of what looks like a black mould coming from the flushing tank into the toilet basin in our van. We are going to leave the filler cap off the tank when we drain it after using the van, but I wondered if anyone knows whether there's anything else we can do, perhaps in the chemical field? We normally use the pink Aquakem diluted in water as the flushing agent, but this obviously isn't doing the business.
Cleaned ours last week, the first time ever that the problem occurred.
Drained header tank.... filled with water and a squirt of bleach.....flushed it for a few minutes.....drained and refilled with water and bleach......flushed for a few minutes again....and all was clear.
Drain....then fill with water only and drain again to clear any bleach.
We had this problem before investing in Fenwicks Fendox, this cl;eaner is great for removing the black deposits and if you change to a toilet flush like Top n Tail the problem should not arise.
You should be able to get either of these products at Halfords, caravan shops and certainly online at Soapysmiths.
We inherited another porta loo with the latest van and it had a severe dose of the black bits, all sorted now thanks to the above goods!
Thanks very much for your helpful replies. I gave it the hosepipe today, which certainly helped. Will see how it goes, and try the other treatments if necessary.
