We have just bought a 2001 Compass Corona and are really happy with it, only problem is we cannot work out how to use the blown air heating unit.

Its a Trumavent TEB Ultaheat and can be run on either gas or electric. It appears to have two control units, one on the fire with a fan and heat option and control knob from 1-5. The other where the rest of the usual controls are with a 500w, 1000w and 2000w option, another on and off switch and a temp contol in degrees. There is also an independent on/off switch next to this control.

Problem is the instructions are useless and we don't know which control is gas and which electric. We have tried trial and error but are getting knowhere as the air blown just seems to be lukewarm whatever we do.

help!!

Ok lets see if I can help it's sound like the same on as ours.

GAS : forget any other controls. The only ones you are using is the 1-10 ignition one (1 being cool and 10 being hot ) and the fan one. The one on the wall is for electric so make sure it's off. Just light it same as the cooker. Checking at the bottom that you have a pilot light. You then have the option of using it as normal or with the warm (WARM) air blower. If you use the blower you do not get the same heat as directly from the fire.

===================================

Elec : Switch on at the wall. The 500,1000 & 2000W is optional. If you are not using any other appliances then 2000w is ok. (approx 8amps) . We use this thru the night or to heat the van thru and air the bedding Etc while we are setting up. If using say the kettle or a haidryer then move this to 1000 or 500 accordingly  so you dont blow the EHU

The temp control on the wall . You can set to the temp you want. So say you want the room to be at 22 Degrees then set the wall at 22 put the fire to 3-5 with the fan off or 4-8 with the fan on.

I always find the fan only really gives a cold draught never a good heat and our dog hates it.  Really gave her a bad draught in her eyes.

Even more confused or understand a little better ?

Hope I've helped

Thanks cath that helps a lot. Only thing is we have two knobs on the fire, one goes from 1-5 (the one with the fan operation button on it), the other goes from 1-10 and is used when gas fire is on.

Do you think its the 1-5 knob on mine?

Also do you have the fire on as well as using electric?

The 1 to five knob controls the fan speed the 1 - 10 knob controls the temperature that the fires own thermostat is set to 1 being the lowest temperature 10 giving the highest. Using the fan you also need to be aware that the 1 - 5 switch also has another switch incuded in it, on the left hand end of that switch it says  manual and at the other en it says auto, when it is set on manual the fan runs at the speed you set it continually, on auto it runs at the speed you set it whenever the fire is putting out enough heat for the fans sensing mechanism to register it. I find it best to use the fan on a low auto setting, say 2 when using the electric on either the 500 or the 1000 setting, otherwise the air blowing is not warmed up. Using the gas or the electric on 2000 then a slightly higher setting is useful.

The switch for the electric has an outside ring that adjusts the power setting ( 500, 1000, or 2000 ) the internal black button ( on mine ) turns and points to numbers on a scale from 1 -10 I try to set it on number 7 but sometimes need to adjust it up or down a little, when you turn it you can here the switch turn the fire on and off and if you look carefully you will see the intensity of the little light go up or fall.

If you are on EHU always use it. Why waste your gas. ? When your paying for EHU.

Yes our fire is on (electric)  24/7 . Just count your amps.

EHU say your on 10amps

2000 = 8 amps  = doesnt leave you much IE Kettle

1000 = 4 amps so you have 6 ish to play with (5 to be safe)

500 = 2 amps so lots to play with. Can easily have the TV , Kettle Etc.

If it's warm then leave it constantly on 500 then forget about it and use what you want. If you blow the EHU then it's easy to re set it. Not a big prob and long as you learn by your mistakes and dont keep doing it. Sometimes you need the warden to reset it and they are not too pleased it ir repeated. ( my bonus is OH is a spark so he does the resetting himself but don't tell anyone I said that)

If you find your heater doesn't seem to work too well when using electric with blow heating on ( blows warm for a short while then goes cold and stays cold ) contact Gary ARC Systems tel 0115 9213175 , he can make up a small remote sensor for you, that controls the heat output better .
