Not sure about regulations but personally I would just go for it as long as you are confident in doing so - I would! Just run it from another socket it should be fine as long as the wiring is generally in good condition. Unless it is a new van, I think I'd rather the dealer did it for me.

16th and the latest 17th Edition regs certainly do apply to caravans.
If you have added sockets at home in the past and you are quite confident in doing the job go for it!
Just remember to use 3 core flexible cable [not the flat twin and earth you would have used in your house and yes you can spur it off another socket if thats \easier than taking it back to the 16amp MCB in the distribution board.
Your alternative is to contact a C & G qualified electrician to do the job, if you go this route he should issue you with a certificate to cover his work.As we all know the downside to this is cost.
Hi Steve, I have had ago at that, see Here, to see how I did it and the issues that arose. Taking a spur from another socket would have been easier but I took the feed from the circuit breaker.
I would guess that flexible is preferred/advised because when traveling, there is bound to be some movement and flexing, and twin and earth is too rigid for this, possibly breaking after (a long) time....

scuse ignorance why 3 core and not 2.5 twin & earth.
neil
Twin and earth has single core conductors and therefore less flexible than multicore cable. As movement and flexing can take place especially when the van is on the move it has become common practice for manufacturers to fit flexible cable.
I believe one manufacturer, Avondale from memory did use twin/earth for a time but reverted to flexible for the above reasons.
