Hi,

It is that time of year when after the summer hol's (ha ha) thinking of changing the van. Looking to make thing more comfotable and thinking of a van with a fixed island bed. We have a swift Conq 650 at present and were looking at the Swift 645 (2008 model), then noticed that Luna have a similar. Does any know what the differences are, is any one better than the other or is it down to personal preference.

Regards

can not help on the choice but good luck whatever you get.at the end of the day its still personal preference.for instance i do not like L SHAPE rooms in caravans but a lot do like them.if it helps i also like the fixed island bed type.

We were fully intending to get a tin tent with a fixed bed when we changed ours in 2005 owing to how my hubby hates having to make up the bed before he can get in it every night. But on investigation we opted for a five berth jobby where we can actually leave the rear small double made up permanently while we're away so only has to be made up for the first night. We have sliding wooden doors that can go across to block it off but when we're on our own, we tend to leave those open and just keep the bed tidy so that we have more light coming into the tin tent.

When our son and DIL are with us, we give up the rear double to them and we just use the two front singles, (which I have to say, I sleep much better on), so no real making up of those for hubby, just a sheet and his sleeping bag. We've never bothered making up the front king size, but might give it a go one day when we've got company staying, just to see how we go.

One of our reasons for not getting a fixed bed was the fact that they all seemed to have even heavier MTPLM thingies than the one we settled on and another was to do with the width. Those with fixed beds tended to be another two inches wider than this one and we wouldn't have been able to open the door once it's shoved up our shared drive to load up when we bring it home from the storage place. But having chosen this one for that reason.......we no longer even shove it up the drive for loading

Now we just bring it home the day that we're going to be going away, plug it into the mains to get the fridge started off while we clean it out and load it up. Hubby sticks the mains cable down to the pavement with duct tape and positions some small orange cones, (you can get them in Tesco in the play equipment area), at each end to alert pedestrians to the cable so they don't trip over it and Bob's yer uncle.

BUT............I do still secretly LIKE the idea of a fixed bed, especially one with a memory foam MATTRESS!!!!! Oh yesssssssssss. If you do get a fixed bed......spoil yourself with one of them babies!

We have the Lunar Lexon 640 island bed model , which is now called Delta , its the first T/A model we have had , and i wouldnt go back to S/A model , there is loads of storage under the bed , full sized shower in the middle , toilet and wash basin on the opposite side , as we caravan all year sometime for a month at a time , making a bed up becomes a real chore after a few weeks , if our grand children stay which is quite rare they sleep in the front , we have just come back from the Dordogne in France , try making the bed in 33c , and we will be off to spain for a month for Christmas and new year ,
