just been away in our caravan and the fridge stopped working on the mains option, its ok on gas and 12v the power light is on but its not getting cold, i rang my dealer and he says its most likely the heating element, before i go and order one has anyone here had the same problem and what was the cause please, its a dometic fridge, but not sure of the model no yet.

Thanks for the rapid reply wizard, already looked at the website for the parts, i guess i'm just looking for confirmation really before i order, although scouting around other forums seems to point to it being the heating element, if anyone has any more info keep it coming please

You need to test the element ( i think ) for a open circuit , using a multi-meter .
I know how i'd check this , but am finding it difficult to explain in text so the person reading it can do it correctly . Hopefully someone will come along soon that can explain it to you .

Hi Les, Your dealer is right, if the fridge is working on gas  and you have 240v to it then it will have failed, it could be the thermostat but thats unlikly, I've never changed  stat on a Dometic fridge, just a little tip before ordering make sure you order the correct element as there are several different wattage's for different models, the infomation you need is on the data plate insie the fridge.

Just as an update, in Novembers issue of Practical Caravan they have done an article about replacing a Dometic fridge cooling element, just what i'm about to do!!

How coincidental is that!
