Do you have a charge controller between the solar panel and the battery ? i imagine you have . Charge controllers can be damaged if they are disconnected from the battery and not the solar panel first , i would use a multi-meter to check the output from the charge controller .

Many thanks wizard(just spent 1/2 an hour on your website)my solar panel is one of the latest models plugs into the grey lead.It has controller fitted as standard to the panel.why would this cause a problem on my drive after fully charging battery via hook up.Then unhooking van the battery just goes flat?
