The battery on my van goes flat after fully charging it hooked up.There does'nt seem to be any appliance on (boiler etc)to drain it.I have changed the battery for a brand new one to see if it makes any difference but the same thing happens. How can i find whats draining my battery, many thanks.
Make sure you set the car/van switch to the middle switch setting which is off , but not normally labeled . If it's not set to off, power is sent to the relays in the caravan and these will drain the battery over time .
Thanks for these valuable pieces of advice. But the problem arose in the summer on a rally without electricity.Normally my solar panel(45watt) is sufficient to top up battery fully whilst we are on the beach all day!But this year we found that the battery indicator was showing 12 volt or less when it usually shows 13volts and consequently we had to have our battery recharged by the stewards(we always take spare battery)four or five times.so to make things a bit clearer,I haven't only discovered this "battery drain"whilst the van has been sat on the drive.I will check the suggestions you have collectively made but cannot see how any of these would explain the drain on the battery whilst i was away in the summer, many thanks
Do you have a charge controller between the solar panel and the battery ? i imagine you have . Charge controllers can be damaged if they are disconnected from the battery and not the solar panel first , i would use a multi-meter to check the output from the charge controller .

Many thanks wizard(just spent 1/2 an hour on your website)my solar panel is one of the latest models plugs into the grey lead.It has controller fitted as standard to the panel.why would this cause a problem on my drive after fully charging battery via hook up.Then unhooking van the battery just goes flat?

Double check a few things first.
Is it fitted with a mover, but it's left switched on?
Is there a 12v master switch which isn't switched off?
Hi tykey,no motor mover on van.But could you tell me why I should turn off 12v master switch as I have never done this before. This is my 1st van but I've had it for about 4 years, cheers

Unless one's appeared by magic, you don't have one. Some do and some don't. 'tis a mystery

Are you sure the EHU charger is actually still working, and the battery really is fully charged?
According to the battery monitor it is yes,I've just taken it off EHU and the monitor is saying it is up to 13volts.Going to check it again tomorrow.Leaving battery switch(car/van)in the middle position and main switch isolated to see if this makes any difference, thanks again.
iv just come home from a rally i killed a battery in 1 night, went a way noing somthing was wrong with the water heater but not the lights sat in van for about 2 hours when thay started to dim and the battery level light went to red,so i was messing about with the zig and pulled the fuse out for the lights and it turned back to amber so the next day i took every light out inside the van checked em and put em back still no joy i couldnt take the awning light down didnt want to break the seal in the bad weather got home and took awning light off and bingo the lights and waterheater all work fine now so there must have been a short there
Worst case scenario is that your battery could be knackered. How old is it and/or has it been abused i.e. allowed to discharge? Any garage/workshop would be able to test it for you - and flog you a new one no doubt!
