After much thought, I decided to ditch our Sunncamp early model porch, the smallest type with the crossed fibreglass rods, we had to abandon it in terrible weather, the wind played hell with it, and it was always a struggle to put up.
Have now purchased a Sunncamp Ultima 2.6m, it is recommended for min 230mm height, our Avondale Orestes 2berth is not really high enough in the awning rail, more like 210mm, so I took a chance it would fit somehow, and have just erected it for the first time. The lack of height leaves slack in the side panels. The good news is that there is enough spare that the sides to the caravan can extend to the corner rails, so I reckon to get 3M of skirt, take the beading off it, and sew some heavy duty velcro so that the sides of the awning will clap on to it, thus making what will be a full length awning instead of one which when r/h along the edge of the doorframe, interfered with the front window along the l/h edge.
Our old one was fitted into the r/h rail like this, with the l/h sewed on bead going into a vertical length I bolted right through the van wall - a bit cack-handed but the van is 1992!
If there is much slack high up in the end walls I will take that up with a sewn velcro strip. I reckon an hour with my mother's old Singer will do a successful job. Has anyone any other ideas?
------------- Same van 13 years now, heading for 2 years total spent in van.
