Hi John , it does sound to me like the awning rail is pulling away from the body of the caravan , this is because the mastic & screws holding the rail are no longer doing their job , can you send me or post it on here a picture of the gap . If i'm right you need to reseal the awning rail before water starts to get into the caravan ( see links above ) , i would not recommend using fibre glass for resealing . One thing i think doesn't help awning rails to remain sealed is when people over tighten there awnings when setting up , although awnings shouldn't be flapping about, some on caravan sites do look bow string tight .
