Hi Caravanners

Caravanning is totally new to us, so having discovered a leak, reading some of the horror stories on this site, and being diy dumbo's.....It "scared us silly"

We noticed that part of our sofa in our Coachman (460/2 VIP) was wet last week. Then we noticed a "dripping" off the mounting box where the tape player is, this is next to the wine/glasses cabinet. Can't see any water on the walls. However, we've noticed that inside the cabinet, by the internal trim, that it's often wet, yet the drips are "clean" not discoloured.

The wall in the wardrobe was also wet, by the corner. Do caravans get a lot of condensation when heating is on and it very cold outside?

Also, underneth the wash basin in the shower room, towels were found to be wet that were on the shelf there.

Please help...feel like quitting the caravan and going back to our dome tent!

Hi Magicman1960 , welcome to UKCS .

Caravans do sometimes suffer from a fair bit of condensation ( mine does ) when being used after a winter lay up .
If your not using it now have a wipe round with kitchen rolls and make sure any vents ( including floor vents ) are not blocked / covered up .
I use damp crystals in my caravan ( can be bought from caravan shops ) .
If you can remove the seat cushions store at home in the dry or stand them on their ends in the middle of the caravan and cover with a sheet , this will reduce the amount of moisture they collect .
Leave all cupboard doors open so air can circulate .

When the weather is better book in for a damp check if you are still having problems .

Hi, we also use damp traps in the winter time in our caravan, you can often get two in a pack from Poundland and the cheapest replacement crystals I have found, you can get from Wilkinson in a tub which will refill damp traps several times over.

if you have the van at home you could try a dehumidifier.i have small one from woolworths and it does a good job.i have it on auto for 6 hours a day.they can freeze up if it gets very cold.

the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
