Hello again!

I have now resealed the corners and back end of my Abbey Stafford. Before replacing the rear rail above the window I found that it was wet behind the two roof panels. Further investigation showed that the centre roof seam is leaking towards the rear of the caravan. Lukily the timbers were fine and have now dried out.

May be a silly question but is the reseal on the roof the same procedure as awning rails? ie strip off (the rail, not me) clean all surfaces with white spirit then meths, use W4 mastic roll and edges with Silkaflex 512? Or is there a different method. I have  some 'towers' at work so I can work above the van.

Thanks for any help and advice given.

Rich.

Hi Rich , I would say you could do it either the way you've described ( would get the best result , but take longer ) or just use a roll of W4 mastic and trim off any excess once screwed down .

Many thanks again for responses.

I think I will use W4 and Silkaflex as I don't want to be going up there again!

Rich.

Hi Wizard.

Is W4 and Sikaflex 512 still the way to go for a roof rail or can you use the Sikaflex under the rail? Do you know if there are any pictures / descriptions I could follow?

What's a rough time to do the job and does the weather need to be warm for the Sikaflex?

I have a small leak to the rear bathroom. Am hoping it's the roof rail and not the awning rail. Water was collecting on the roof by the roof rail when it was stored as the caravan was leaning back. I could also apply a strip of Sikaflex to the top of the awning rail just in case?? The walls is damp not blown. Just hoping I can dry out somehow, though no power where it's stored.

Thanks

S.
