are solar panels any good for just a trickle charge into the battery
just looking at cheap ones as i do not want to spend a lot on one !
as most of my time in the caravan ends up in fields at kite festivals with no hook ups available ?

Hi.
Well what a question, like how long is a piece of string. It all depends what you consider to be a trickle charge, and what you want to run from your batteries. There are 2 things you need to establish, they are how many amps your equipment will use, and how many amps the solar panel can produce, obviously the solar panel output needs to be greater than your equipment uses

good point
it was just a idea to top the battery up through the day
as most of the day i dont use any power apart from making a brew mainly just lights at night so everthing is no flat out all the time
and when its back home would it charge through the week

Maplins do a briefcase panel - 13W for about £50. We use one when there's no leccy for basic lighting, pump etc + about 1 hr TV via an inverter each night. Went away for a week and still had enough juice to use the mover when we got home.

We also use a tiny one ('bout a tenner on Ebay) to keep the battery alive when its in storage. Works well in summer and ok in Winter.

And of course, once you've bought the panel - power is FREE - my favourite flavour

Hi I bought one from ebay for about a tenner worked great for about 8 months then

died, of course I may have gotten a duff one but I would not bother getting another one, i just go up and take my battery home over winter.

Hi bonefish
Personally I think it’s a waste of money 2.4 watts will give about 0.2 of an amp, per hour when the sunshine’s. You’ll need 5 hours of sunshine to produce 1 amp. Watts divided by volts= amps
