I have a 2004 Dart 556.

Its generally a fantastic caravan. there are however a couple of small cracks on the rear, roughly 1" long in both top corners of the rear panel.

Does anyone know how to repair these cracks? Is it worth just using sealant, splashing out on repair, or perhaps arrange for plastic welding.

Basically I have no idea. I don't have any damp inside the van, and you can't see the cracks unless you make an effort to look.

Advice please??????

worth investigating,i have seen it done on a car and you cannot tell, would it work on a caravan? do not know.there is a tape you can buy but it only last three years and then needs changing.

Yes i'm here reading these threads!

Thanks to everyone for their ideas.

I'm taking the van to Discover in York on Wednesday, as i forgot to check if it was still in Discover 6 warranty which it is, so thats my first port.

If that fails I will be ringing the plastic surgeon, as this sounds ideal. Will update wednesday night.

There were a lot of Avondales with too thin panels back then, the usual place for them splitting was between the corners of the rear windows  to awning rails.

No news yet.

They did a damp test, which was shown as slightly high, but not damp. I got the feeling that if saturated would have covered it by warranty immediately. Funny old world!

They are speaking to the warranty people and will hopefully ring tomorrow to let me know if its covered. Fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still no decision over the warranty.

I gather that the Discover 6 warranty doesn't cover. (I wonder if it actually covers anything!) Discover York though is considering its response before letting me know. So fingers crossed!

When we first brought our (second hand) Avondale Rialto home we noticed it had the same cracks (1-2inches in length) originating from the rail on the back panel so we immediately smeared sealant in them to stop the water getting in.  It's difficult to know if this is cosmetic or whether it could cause damp issues.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  I'd be interested in how you get on Sceptre001.

The sales and aftercare package looks good. Their insurance policy described doesn't cover the problem (alledgedly!). I am now waiting to see if there "responsibility" does.

Fingers crossed

They have offered a 50/50 cost repair. They have stimated a cost to me of circa £100.

I think this seems fair, so role on the 23rd!

The caravan has been in and repaired?!

Originally cost £100, they then refunded as we found all our plates etc smashed in a box inside! By the time I got home one of the cracks has started to re propagate... also a dint on the side that looks like the size of a clamp.

the MD is ringing me by 10am in the morning.

When I raised the issue I was within the original 6 months of purchase. What can I expect from their customer service? Should I demand a full refund.

Advice please.
