Hi.Can anyone please tell me how to remove the windows on my 1996 Coachman Genius 500/5. My previous caravan was an Elddis and all I did to remove them was unscrew the window stays, lift the window to a near horizontal position and it came out ok. I need to replace the mastic on the window rail but the only way I can see the windows coming out is to prise the rail away from the caravan slightly and then slide them off which seems impractical, especially when re-fitting.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Alan

Hi Wizard,
Thanks for the advice.I actually tried doing it this way and it worked ok on a short rail with one window. Tomorrow I'll be trying it on the other side of the 'van but this is a full length rail (17ft) with two windows so it maight be a bit trickier. But if that's the only way to do it I'm sure I'll be able to tackle it. Thanks once again.

Hi Alan , i would try lifting the window as high as you can without forcing it up , if this doesn't work can you just side the windows out of the way but leave them on the rail , then fix / seal one half of the rail , then side them to other way and fix / seal the other half .

Hi again,
I managed to do the other side of the van today. Took out all the screws on the rail and then prised about 2 - 3 feet of one end of the rail away from the van. This enabled me to slide both windows out and then remove the rail completeley. After a thorough clean and new mastic strip fitted to the rail I removed about 6 feet of backing paper from the mastic and screwed that end back onto the van. Now that the rail was semi-secured I was able to slide both windows back in from the other end and slide them right down to the secured end, then carried on fitting the rest of the rail and finally lining the windows up.
