I've just got a 1999 Sterling Starlight with a Whale Elegance tap in the kitchen. It's in a nice tasteful green, and has got a crack most of the way down the underside of the spout.

Seeing as I've already bypassed the microswitches & now run a pressure switched system, is there any particular reason I couldn't use a normal domestic kitchen tap from B&Q as a replacement, as they're a heck of a lot cheaper than caravan taps?

non at all if you can find one to fit.as you open the tap the pressure drops and starts the pump.

As Michael said, no reason. Fitting it to the caravan pipework might be a problem.

I would think the main issues in original caravan taps is the weight, fitting to the pipe work coulb be an issue, depends on how handy you are, I have a household waste outlet on my "bathroom" sink in the van, the plastic cracked around the original, leaving a perfect fit.

I capped the main drain outlet, and used the one meant for the overflow, job done!

depending on your pipework diameter, and if its the semi rigid type, some of the push fittings meant for flexi plastic water pipe could work.

i have an external shower box that has domestic tap connectors just use push fit with an insert.

Cheers folks...that's kinda what I thought, but reckoned I'd better just check!

All the plumbing in the 'van is semi-rigid pushfit, so adapting between that & 15mm tails on a domestic tap shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I'll probably have to make a blanking plate to make a round tap fit in the rectangular hole, just need to find something that looks nice!
