Hi all,

Hope someone can help.

I have a Trumatic S3002 gas heater fitted, (with blow air heating ststem) the problem is that the pilot light will work but the unit does not fully fire up (as it did up to this month).

There is no problem with the gas supply.

 Any help welcome.

Alan

The gas valve piston is sticking preventing it coming up when you release the control knob, solution is to service the gas valve or as most fitters insist, replace it.

Either way is not as straight forward a it looks and should be left to an expert, under no circumstances should you try using WD40 or the like to free it

Hi Gary,

Thanks for that.

Whilst I'm sure you are right sometimes it does light but after a few minutes returns to pilot (last night it ran for over an hour then dropped back to pilot).

Why can't I try WD40 when the fire is turned off?

easy , wd40 is a oil , you have fault so you spray the piston with oil , it could block the pilot jet up , or knacker the seals on what works making it even more unsafe or you could have a nice open fire in the van when the oil ignites

Well I see your point!

I guess I'll call a gas engineer, I'll let you know what the answer is, although it will take a few weeks as we are not going to the van for a few weeks.

Any idea of an engineer near Whitby?

Thanks very much for your help.

Alan

Nicks second possibility is the one, the piston seal is a silicone rubber 'o' ring and will swell rapidly as it soaks up WD40 or anything similar.

That's another job WD40 is useless at!

Hi guys,

Well as the weather is now warmer there is no great rush for the repair (if it gets cold I'll use an electric heater). So if anyone has contact numbers for engineers it would be helpful.

I'm next at the van 27th April then usually about twice a month until September.

Thanks again for all the help.

Alan
