Hi all, where can we buy replacement insulation board from? Also, I've seen differing opinions about bonding insulation board. Do you bond it just to the wallboard or do you bond it to the outer skin and the wallboard? Thanks! Natalie
Hi Natalie,
The polystyrene insulation is 25mm thick, best to ring around, Wickes may have it.
As for bonding, depends on the age of the caravan to a large extent. Older ones had a wooden framework and insulation, even fibreglass was used as the strength of the sides came from the skin on the outside and the wallboard on the inside. Modern caravans are of a bonded construction, no wooden bits in the walls, just a bonding between the skin, the polystyrene and the wallboard, so I would say bond everything!
Have a look Here to give you an idea.
Hi Lawrence, thanks very much for your advice! We're tackling some early signs of ingress on our 2003 and following a bit more investigation we're hoping we won't need to replace the insulation. We're 'belt and braces' kind of people and want to make sure that there won't be any problems in the future. We plan to be buried in this caravan many, many years down the line . Thanks again! Natalie
i used 25mm polystyrene sheets from my local diy place,
was just over 3 quid for an 8x4 sheet then used gripfill adhesive which was about 7 quid a tube. but ya gonna wanna use quite a bit so when you press the insulation on it all squidges and meets.
