Just had a search to see if I could find an answer to my question prior to this post, but failed, so here is the question:

I am about to add an aditional small table into my caravan (Bailey Pageant Moselle) and this will be a permanant fixture below the forward offside window. Big question is, what length of screw should I use and should I be trying to find batons etc to screw into?

Any comments most welcome.

Mike

yes find the batons if it`s going to hold weight or you be having only 3mm of screw in used to hold it, if thats not possible to use the baton then very strong glue and baton on the wall board and screw the top onto the baton.

I wouldn't use a screw that was longer than 1 inch ( 25mm ) to be on the safe side .

I guess the answer is very carefully!

think the answer is to use a baton fixed with strong glue the full length and screwed at no more than three inch apart.for extra strength you could use a piano hinge full length.

the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Hi Mike,

If your Bailey is like my Bailey, there are no batons to screw into as the walls are of a bonded construction (aluminium bonded to polystyrene bonded to wall board).

I have noticed the fixings used are rivets (which tend to come out!) When I had to attach a top locker I used some rawplugs. Look on this page to see what I mean (it's about half way down the page). So using those and glue to fix a wooden piece to the wall board, should be up to the job.

Length of screws? wall thickness 25mm, plus the width of the new baton, then take off 5mm and you should be safe.
