Hi Laurie, thanks for your answer  I did try that but it seemed to stiff to push back and I could'nt get in very well as I havn't took the other bolt out yet in case it made the situation worse but are you saying I should take the al-ko off then use a ram to compress the damper ?

Hi, what you do is put your new head on the tube & secure it with the front bolt, have a screwdriver or similar ready, then shove the hitch head all the way back, it will shove the damper back for you, when its fully back grab the handle & pull the hitch back out as fast as you can, the damper will come forward much slower, then you can shove the screwdriver into the rear hole & through the damper as it comes past, you will then need to shove out the screwdriver with the rear bolt as you replace it.
